STORIA / PANORAMA
The 1973 Ford Taunus 1600 represents one of Ford Europe’s most distinctive saloons of the 1970s, appreciated for the robustness of its mechanics, driving comfort, and the period’s automotive styling. The 1600 engine offers a good balance between performance, reliability, and ease of use, features that contributed to the Taunus’ success as a family and versatile car.
The example offered at auction is a Ford Taunus 1600 registered in 1973 and delivered new in Italy, belonging to a generation that is increasingly appealing to classic car enthusiasts. Completely restored in bodywork and mechanics by an enthusiast, it is in excellent condition and ready for use.
EXTERIOR
The bodywork presents in the original Platinum Metallic color. The paintwork has been recently restored by the previous owner, as documented by photos of the conditions before restoration included in the auction, and today presents in good overall condition, with only minor marks consistent with normal use. The rare vinyl roof has been fully restored and is in excellent condition.
Chrome trim appears bright and well preserved, as do the various original details that help maintain the model’s characteristic look.
A set of alloy wheels with new tires has been installed.
Recently a professional polishing and detailing treatment was also carried out, further enhancing the gloss of the bodywork and the overall presentation of the car.
The underbody is in solid original condition, well preserved and road-legal.
INTERIOR
The cabin represents one of the most interesting aspects of this example. The interiors are complete, original, and very well preserved, with the original dashboard and steering wheel still present and in good condition typical of this GXL trim.
The overall interior shows only minimal normal signs of time and use, retaining many original and particularly characteristic details of the car. The headlining upholstery is also in good overall condition.
Before sale, a thorough cleaning and sanitization of the entire cabin was also carried out.
MECHANICS
The car is equipped with the original engine, as stated on the registration certificate. The engine starts promptly and runs well; it has also been restored by the previous owner, as documented by photos of the prior condition.
The clutch, gearbox, and brakes operate correctly, with smooth gear engagement during use. The technical inspection is valid until February 2028 and was passed without defects. To further verify operating condition, a test drive of about 200 km was recently completed, with no driving faults noted.
As with any classic car, before continuous use and especially before long journeys, a general check and standard preventive maintenance are advisable.

Disclaimer
Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
