The Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D is the standard prime that generations of Nikon users started with. It is small, light at about 155g, and sharp from f/2.8 onwards, with the fast f/1.8 aperture giving a shallow depth of field for portraits and usable shutter speeds indoors. The D-type design reports subject distance to the camera for more accurate flash metering. On DX bodies it works as a 75mm short telephoto.
