Description
An attractive Art Nouveau decorative bowl or vide-poche, dating from around 1900, featuring an elegant female figure modelled in high relief.
The composition is characteristic of the Art Nouveau period, with a graceful semi-nude female figure with long flowing hair emerging organically from the curved and asymmetrical form of the bowl. Flowing lines and stylised ornamental motifs continue around the border, creating a particularly decorative sculptural effect.
The piece has a warm dark brown patina with areas of golden bronze showing through, highlighting the relief and giving the surface considerable character.
The reverse shows the construction and natural ageing of the metal. A suspension opening incorporated into one end also allows the piece to be displayed decoratively.
