Agate slice from Brazil, natural cross-section with translucent bands in white, gray and brown, weight 155.89 g, dimensions 15.5 × 11.5 × 0.4 cm, includes a transparent stand.
Description from the seller
Exceptional cross-sectional cut of natural agate, highlighted by its transparency to light and its beautiful concentric bands in white, gray, and brown tones that follow the shape of the original cavity where it formed. It ships with a transparent stand.
It is a variety of quartz (chalcedony) that forms when silica-rich solutions slowly filter into cavities of volcanic rocks, depositing microscopic layers layer by layer over thousands or millions of years.
The sharp lines and color contrasts reflect changes in pressure, temperature, and chemical composition of the minerals during the crystallization process.
In the center it features a small cavity lined with white quartz, indicating that the filling and crystallization process stopped before it fully sealed.
It presents natural and stable microfractures that are due to internal stresses during crystallization from changes in pressure and temperature, even tensile stress during formation.
Customs duties outside the EU will be borne by the auction winner.
