Fine old North African ceremonial nimcha dagger. Originating from Algeria, possibly the Algiers region, and dating from the 20th century.

The dagger features a strongly curved single-edged steel blade with engraved decoration and a distinctive iron guard with upturned ends. The wooden grip is richly decorated with inlaid light metal wire, spiral metal ornaments and red decorative inlays.

Complete with the accompanying curved wooden sheath, also richly decorated. The rear of the sheath is executed more modestly, as is common with similar specimens.

This type was worn as a ceremonial or presentation object and appears in literature and trade under Algerian as well as more general Maghrebi nimcha designations.
