Polished fossil Nautilus from Madagascar. This extraordinary polished Nautilus fossil originated from the jungles of Madagascar. This 120-million-year-old fossil dates to the Cretaceous period, in an era when seas were teeming with ammonite and nautilus creatures that over time fossilized into the splendid specimens found today.

This piece, carefully polished, shows the reflections of the original shell, still partly visible in both the shell and the typical ridges of the original shell. The reflections are beautifully red on a pearl-white background. Internally the fossil is the color of calcite-colored minerals that replaced the original organic material present in the living Nautilus.

The Nautilus specimen has been carefully hand-polished to the highest degree, bringing out the vivid colors of their shells. This Nautilus would be ideal for a collector or as an impressive piece of interior decor in any home.
