Description from the seller

Elegant five-arm ceiling chandelier, carved and turned wood, with rich Baroque/Rococo-inspired decoration.

The piece presents a highly decorative construction, standing out for the wood craftsmanship, the turned elements and the elaborate volutes that form the five arms. The central body is made of successive bulbous elements, rings and fluted sections, creating a vertical composition of great ornamental richness.

The arms feature curved, sinuous shapes, ending in supports for the light sources. The decoration combines volutes, stylized vegetal motifs, fluting and shell-shaped elements, characteristic of Baroque and Rococo tastes reinterpreted during the 20th century.

The wood shows a deep reddish-brown tone, with a polished finish and a beautiful natural variation of color and grain. The contrast between the darker areas of the incisions and the polished surfaces particularly enhances the relief of the wood carving.

The lower central element ends in a decorative turned pendant, while the upper part presents an equally worked suspension rosette/comb, connected to the metal chain.

This is a piece with a strong visual impact, suitable for both classical interiors and eclectic spaces, where it can function as a central decorative element.

Dating

Probably the first half of the 20th century, circa 1920–1940.

The decoration is clearly inspired by Baroque/Rococo, and should not be confused with an original Baroque piece. The electrification and observable technical elements are also compatible with a piece produced or adapted for electric lighting during the 20th century.

Origin

Western Europe – origin not confirmed.

Given the stylistic characteristics, Portugal, Spain or Italy are possibilities, but there are no marks or documentation in the available photographs that allow a definitive attribution to any one of these countries. Therefore, for rigorous description, I recommend not presenting a national origin as fact.

Condition

Good vintage overall condition, with signs of use and aging compatible with the age.

The wood retains much of its finish and shows a beautiful patina resulting from age and use. There are small marks, scratches and superficial color variations visible in the photographs, typical of an antique/vintage piece.

Photographs should be considered part of the state description.
