A comprehensive monograph on the work of the Hungarian photographer André Kertész (1894–1985).
With his highly personal photographs, skillfully captured the fleeting, emotional moments in his surroundings.
His work had a major influence on artistic photography in the mid-20th century and on artists such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, and Brassaï. His career is marked by three key periods: Budapest, 1914–1925; Paris 1925–1936, and New York 1936–1985. This first retrospective covers all phases of his work but focuses particularly on Kertész’s magazine photography, his “Distortions” —nude photographs in which he used distorting mirrors to capture his models from unusual perspectives—and his Polaroids, a series he shot from his New York window, in which he fascinatingly photographed personal objects against the backdrop of the New York skyline.
