Val Saint Lambert - Bowl (2) - Diamants Pierreries - Manganese

Elegant mustard pot with a molded glass cover from Val Saint Lambert, part of the remarkable “Diamants Pierreries” service, model listed in the emblematic Belgian manufacture catalog published in 1913. This collection stands as a fine example of Val Saint Lambert’s virtuosity in molded glass at the dawn of the 20th century, with particularly complex décors featuring facets, reliefs and light diffraction.

Slightly bulbous in shape and resting on a flared circular foot, the mustard pot displays an extremely rich pattern of diamonds, diamond points and geometric motifs, completed by radiating rays at the base. The upper rim, deeply dentilled and animated by fan motifs, adds an almost floral dimension to the whole. The domed lid repeats the same decorative vocabulary and ends with a remarkable pinecone-shaped button, itself fully faceted. An opening in the lid allows the passage of the spoon.

The multiplication of reliefs and facets gives the crystal notable depth and produces many light plays. This ornamental richness is characteristic of the “Diamants Pierreries” repertoire, several pieces of tableware from which are documented in the 1913 catalog.

The glass also shows a clearly visible reaction under ultraviolet light at 365 nm, adding extra interest to this antique piece.

In the material, some internal impurities create locally the appearance of a dark veil, mainly perceptible on the inner face of the recipient. These marks are not traces of use or superficial deposits: they are related to the composition and the manufacturing process of the glass/crystal. Such inclusions can appear during fusion and molding, when certain particles or irregularities of the raw material remain trapped in the mass. They thus testify to the piece’s old manufacture and should not be mistaken for deterioration due to use.

Condition: excellent overall. The glass is very well preserved and the reliefs remain particularly sharp. A small fleabite is present on the edge of the lid, very discreet and practically invisible when the mustard pot is displayed as intended. A few nicks are also visible at the opening for the spoon passage, a relatively common defect on this type of piece due to the thinness of this part. These elements are visible in the photographs.

A particularly decorative piece representative of Val Saint Lambert’s early 20th-century production, bringing together the richness of the “Diamants Pierreries” decor, the technical prowess of molded glass, and the elegance of Belle Époque tableware.
