Belgian teak sideboard, mid-century Scandinavian style, 1960s.
Beautiful sideboard in Scandinavian style, designed by Oswald Vermaecke for V-Form. The piece fits within the mid-20th-century Scandinavian design aesthetic.
It is made in warm-toned wood with a uniform grain, probably oak.
The front composition is organized into two distinct sections. On the left side we find a set of four drawers, whose fronts constitute one of the most distinctive elements of the piece. Each drawer features geometric decoration of curved and undulating shapes carved into the wood itself, adding dynamism and depth to the structure. The rest of the sideboard is composed of a large closed space accessed by two sliding doors, a solution particularly characteristic of Scandinavian furniture of this period. The doors allow access to a generous interior storage space and, at the same time, maintain a clean and continuous frontal appearance when closed. The circular handles, discreet and practically integrated into the surface, contribute to preserving the sobriety of the whole.
One of the main attractions of the piece is precisely the contrast between the rectilinear surfaces and the curved forms. The top and the base show a pronounced horizontality, while the legs, the fronts of the drawers, and the ornamental work introduce organic lines that soften the overall geometry. The result is a balanced, elegant, and visually light design, despite its generous dimensions.
The sideboard rises on four independent wooden legs that raise the body off the floor and reinforce the feeling of lightness. This solution makes the furniture’s main volume seem suspended, while facilitating cleaning and contributing to a greater sense of space in the room where it is placed.
Stylistically, the piece is framed in Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern. Its conception can be related to the work of Danish designers such as Arne Vodder. However, it is not conclusively attributed to any designer in the absence of a label, seal, documentation or constructive element that would allow a secure attribution.
