Description from the seller
This lot includes two Mexican sterling silver jewelry pieces: a brooch and a spangcollier (necklace). Mid-Century design.
The first piece, the brooch, is crafted in the tradition of the Aztec 'warrior shield' and is marked with the workshop mark: 'MS - Hecho en Mexico', the silver fineness mark '925' and the Assay mark '07' (= urban origin). Weight: 10 g. Dimensions: 7.5 cm x 4.5 cm. This brooch can also be worn as a pendant.
The second piece, a spangcollier (necklace), is marked with the workshop mark: 'TR-26' (= Taxco), the silver fineness mark '925' and 'Mexico'. Weight: 38 g. Dimensions: 13.5 cm x 12 cm. Both pieces are in good used condition consistent with age.
An Aztec 'warrior shield' is traditionally called a chīmalli. These round shields were in ancient times not only important defensive weapons on the battlefield but also served as an important status symbol. The patterns on these shields (a geometric step-valley or spiral) had deep religious meanings and often referred to Aztec gods or cosmic elements.
Shipping: this lot will be carefully packaged and shipped as a parcel (including tracking and insurance).
