An antique copper/m Brass spekpan set from 1800–1850, with two robust handles, a matching 19th‑century perforated skimmer with a long brass handle, and dimensions of about 9 cm in height, 33.5 cm in diameter, and 45 cm in length, showcasing authentic handcraft and patina.
Description from the seller
Unique and atmospheric antique kitchen ensemble, consisting of a large 19th-century copper/brass bacon pan with two sturdy handles and a matching 19th-century perforated skimmer with a long stem.
The generous pan features a beautifully seasoned surface with warm copper and brass tones, old riveted joints and a lovely natural patina. The sturdy, curved handles are separately riveted and clearly show the artisanal construction method. It is precisely the visible signs of use, discolorations and oxidation that give this piece its authentic historic appearance.
This type of shallow pan was formerly used over an open fire or on a stove for frying and rendering fat, meat and other ingredients. The low, wide shape allowed heat to be distributed quickly and made it easy to turn or remove the food.
The large 19th-century skimmer forms a particularly beautiful complement. The wide, almost round blade is dotted with numerous handmade perforations and is attached to a long flat brass stem with a hanging loop. The perforations and slight irregularities emphasize the handmade character.
Together, the pan and skimmer form a wonderful historic kitchen ensemble that fits beautifully in a country kitchen, a hospitality collection, a museum-like interior or a collection of antique kitchenware.
The condition matches the great age. Both objects show clear signs of use and age, patina, discoloration, oxidation, scratches and small irregularities. This is not disturbing but rather characteristic of authentic antique use. See the detail photos for a good impression of the condition and construction.
