An antique easel for paintings and pictures in 19th-century ebonized wood, richly carved with ornamental motifs.
Highly dramatic, it presents at the center a finely carved cartouche, a relief-engraved monogram with large interwoven letters, framed by foliate elements and sinuous scrolls at the base.
The shaped side uprights terminate at the bottom with large scrolls in an inverted volute, decorated with raised vegetal motifs on a background punched with a geometric lattice. The back features the classic mobile goat-foot resting base, connected to the structure by a metal safety chain.
Beautifully finished surface with a delicate dotted texture that creates a pleasant contrast with the smooth parts.
The easel is equipped with the lower stopper, also carved and decorated, intended to support paintings, pictures or decorative plaques.
The superb combination of style and the charm of the ebonized finish makes this lot a piece of great charm, a historic furnishing support with a strong heraldic flavor, capable of dignifying with solemnity antique paintings, icons or precious books.
