Description from the seller
Elegant and imposing 19th-century display easel (large lectern) made of solid mahogany, finely carved and pierced. Suggestive and scenographic, it stands out for a sumptuous openwork structure. The upper crest is centered by a large, deep headpiece carved in the shape of a stylized shell, from which extend the two side uprights, completely pierced and endowed with broad clusters of acanthus leaves and volute curls. The central rectangular-section shaft shows, with a patina, the reddish-grained characteristics of the underlying mahogany and houses the movable support slider, height-adjustable and enriched by a massive locking element carved as a circular beaded rosette. On the back, stability is guaranteed by the original goat-foot base, connected to the shaft by an era brass security chain with tight links. The nobility of the wood chosen and the fluidity of the vegetal elements make it a refined example of high-era parlor cabinet-making, intended for the scenographic display of paintings or prints of value Antique easel for paintings and pictures in mahogany wood from the 19th century.
