Mongols, Ilkhanate.
Anonymous, temp. Abaqa (1265–1282 AD).
Dirham (Silver, 19.9 mm, 2.4 g).
Obv: قاآن / العادل, within a six-pointed star. “The Qa’an / the Just.”
Rev: لا اله الا الله / محمد رسول الله / [date], within an ornamental quatrefoil. “There is no god but Allah / Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah / [date].”

Abaqa, son of Hülegü, ruled the Ilkhanate across Persia and neighboring regions during a period of consolidation after the Mongol conquests. His reign was marked by wars against the Mamluks and rival Mongol khanates, as well as diplomatic contacts with European powers. Coinage remained regionally varied, though Abaqa introduced important reforms that helped move the Ilkhanate toward more standardized monetary issues.
