The Canon EOS 650 of March 1987 was the very first EOS camera, introducing the all-electronic EF lens mount that still underpins Canon's system today. By moving both the autofocus motor and the aperture drive into the lens and connecting body and lens purely through electrical contacts, Canon started with a clean slate that proved remarkably far-sighted: every EF lens made since works on it. The EF 35-70mm f/3.5-4.5 fitted here was one of the two lenses launched alongside it, making this the EOS system exactly as it first appeared — a historically complete founding kit for the autofocus era.
