A pair of vintage Italian Lucite serving trays from the 1970s, one oval and one round, with faux tortoiseshell surfaces, chrome-plated frames and handles, Italian production, measurements oval 40 cm x 28 cm x 6 cm and round diameter 21 cm x 8 cm, in good vintage condition with light scratches and signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Exceptional pair of vintage Italian serving trays from the 1970s, featuring a sophisticated faux tortoiseshell Lucite/acrylic surface combined with chrome-plated metal mounts.
The set consists of two trays in different shapes: one oval and one round, both featuring the characteristic amber and brown tortoiseshell effect and integrated tab handles.
The combination of translucent amber-toned Lucite and reflective chrome creates a distinctly 1970s luxury aesthetic, associated with the refined interiors and Hollywood Regency style of the period.
These trays are attributed in the vintage design market to the Team Guzzini / Guzzini production and are often associated with the aesthetic of the Christian Dior Home line and Willy Rizzo. Similar Italian pieces are regularly catalogued by specialist dealers as Dior Home-style or attributed to Willy Rizzo.
There are no visible manufacturer's labels or attribution marks on the pieces, therefore the attribution should be understood as an attribution rather than a confirmed signature or manufacturer's mark.
The use of faux tortoiseshell acrylic was particularly effective in creating the luxurious appearance associated with this period, while avoiding the use of genuine tortoiseshell.
Condition
The trays are in good vintage condition, with light surface scratches and minor signs of age and use.
The Lucite retains its attractive translucent amber/tortoiseshell appearance. The chrome-plated metal shows normal signs of age and use.
No major cracks or structural damage are apparent from the available photographs.
Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description and show the actual condition of the pieces.
