Antique Sterling Silver Cup – 925/1000 – Engraved “Anna Gould” – c. 1900 – 110 g

Elegant antique silver cup with an ornate handle and finely engraved decoration, crafted in 925/1000 sterling silver.

The cup stands on a raised circular foot and is richly decorated with hand-engraved floral, foliate and geometric motifs. The flowing ornamentation and elegant construction show influences of the late Victorian and Art Nouveau / Jugendstil period, suggesting a date around the late 19th or early 20th century.

A particularly intriguing feature is the applied oval cartouche on the front, clearly hand-engraved with the name:

“Anna Gould”

Anna Gould (1875–1961), daughter of the American railroad magnate Jay Gould, was one of the most prominent American heiresses of the Belle Époque. In 1895 she married the French aristocrat Boniface de Castellane and later Hélie de Talleyrand-Périgord.

Historical auction records document numerous silver objects from the collections associated with Anna Gould and Boniface de Castellane. Silver cups and other pieces in 925/1000 silver are also known from sales connected with the Gould/Castellane collection.
