The antique Khotan carpets originate from the ancient city of Khotan, located in the Central Asian region, formerly known as Eastern Turkestan or Samarkand. Its ideal location between China, Europe and the Mediterranean made it a dynamic trading hub, with substantial textile production, notably silk and carpets.

These carpets were thus heavily influenced by Asian and Persian cultures, blending Chinese motifs with a rich palette of earthy tones, reds, gold, browns and greens, typical of classical Persian carpets.
