Large historical perfume bottle in clear glass with gilding and a blue textile tassel, dating to circa 1880–1900, likely Bohemia (Austria-Hungary), height 23 cm and diameter 8 cm, in good original condition with age‑related wear and minor inclusions.
Description from the seller
Large historic perfume bottle – cut glass with gilding and tassel – approx. 1880–1900
Decorative historic perfume or toilet flacon made of clear glass, presumably Bohemian in origin, from the late 19th century.
The flacon features a longitudinally faceted or fluted body with a long, elongated neck and cut sections at the shoulder and neck. Several hand-applied gold bands provide elegant accents. The gilding shows authentic age-related wear.
Especially beautiful is the matching cut glass stopper with a faceted, gilded knob. On the stopper there is a small numbering “2,” presumably a workshop/assignment number for the individually cut stopper.
Another interesting manufacturing detail is at the base: it has been worked and ground and shows a clearly recognizable irregular, angular break/pontil mark in the center, which stems from the traditional handcrafted production process.
The flacon is complemented by a long blue textile tassel with an elaborately crafted brass-colored metal endpiece. Whether this originally belonged to the flacon from the factory cannot be determined for sure.
Dimensions: height including stopper approx. 23 cm, diameter approx. 8 cm.
Dating: presumably 1880–1900
Origin: presumably Bohemia / Austria-Hungary
Material: clear glass, gilding, metal and textile
Manufacturer: not labeled
Condition: good authentic age-appropriate condition. The glass shows manufacturing irregularities and small inclusions. The gilding shows age- and use-related wear. The angular spot at the bottom center is manufacturing-related and not a later damage.
An exceptional large historic flacon with a beautiful combination of cut glass, gold decor and deep blue tassel.
