Description from the seller
For sale is a beautiful and rare complete set of a historic mechanical typebar typewriter of the Merz-Universal type. This masterpiece was produced by the renowned Merz works (Gebr. Merz) in Frankfurt am Main- Rödelheim.
The absolute highlight for enthusiasts: The original, fabric-lined inner cover (the transport case) is still present after almost 100 years and included in the set.
Details & condition at a glance:
Serial number: 56425 (manufacture date around late 1920s / early 1930s). The number is clean and deeply embossed in the metal frame.
Keyboard: Complete German QWERTZ layout with beautiful, completely undamaged glass keys. No cracks or missing parts in the key rings.
Appearance: The black original paint shines superbly on the sides and rear. All historical logos (“MERZ-Universal” on the carriage as well as the manufacturer inscription on the frame) are excellently preserved. The original metal spool covers with the embossed inscription “MERZ” are also present.
Mechanics: The machine is in an honest, unrestored original condition with charming patina. The type levers move easily and the back is mechanically complete. The original textile ink ribbon is threaded (dry due to age).
Case details: The original leather carrying handle shows age-related wear on the underside but is stable. The metal lock closes cleanly via the slider mechanism (one key is no longer present).
The machine is excellent as a striking decorative object for living rooms, cafés or shop windows, as well as a first-class base for collectors of historical office equipment.
