Description from the seller

Pair of large Baroque-style altar candelabra - Bronze - H 106 cm & 104 cm

Description of the work

In auction an imposing and magnificent pair of monumental candelabra (church torches) cast in bronze. The pieces are inspired by the canons of Italian Baroque, with a slender baluster shaft punctuated by geometric knots and moldings that rests on a majestic tripod base enriched by feet with curled volutes.

It is a fascinating period pairing: the two candelabra share the same structural and decorative design, but show evident differences in proportions, base measurements, patina finish, and details of the joint between the shafts. This uniqueness testifies to artisanal handcraft from antiquity and the collectible nature of the pieces, ideal to create a visually striking focal point in prestigious salons or entrances.

(Note for experts: the vase visible in one of the gallery images is purely illustrative to provide an immediate visual reference for understanding the large scale and monumental dimensions of the candelabra).

The upper part ends with wide drip trays shaped with a border of foliate pointed tips raised. As visible in the close-up photos, the top is equipped with the housing for the central pin (visible on one of the two elements), originally used to secure the large altar candles.

Analysis of Structural Details (Shaft and Base)

Left candelabrum (H 104 cm / Base 21 cm): Features a more geometric shaft with a polished metallic collar at the top and tighter ring nodes. Shows a dark casting with fascinating traces of natural oxidation (green patina) in the bronze recesses.

Right candelabrum (H 106 cm / Base 28 cm): Has a smoother and more flowing profile in the shaft and a lower, more robust lower baluster section. Maintains a patination of gold/antique brass decidedly more uniform and warm.

Technical Sheet

Material: Cast bronze
Style: Baroque / Altar piece
Era: Late 19th Century / Early 20th Century
Quantity: 2 candelabra (similar pair / antique pairing)
Conditions: Good structural conditions, stable and robust.

They present a beautiful natural patina with the normal signs of time and use that enhance authenticity.
One of the two trays does not have the protruding threaded pin (please observe carefully the gallery).

Shipping notes

Given the considerable weight of the bronze and the monumentality of the pieces, the items will require bespoke professional packaging (high-density polystyrene and reinforced cardboard).

Shipping will be carried out via traceable express courier to ensure maximum safety during transport.
