Description from the seller
Lot of 9 antique Dutch wall tiles – Delft blue – 19th century, possibly older
Description
Beautiful and varied lot of 9 antique Dutch wall tiles, executed in blue-and-white and hand-painted.
The tiles date most likely predominantly from the 19th century, with some pieces possibly older. Due to differences in painting style, corner motifs and execution, it is a composite lot from different periods.
The subjects include, among others:
* Dutch landscapes and architecture, various ones depicted within a round medallion
* Sail ships and water views
* A church and village scene
* Figurative and rural scenes
The tiles show clear signs of age and use, including craquelure, edge and corner damage, glaze wear and other signs of use. Some pieces have larger edge or corner damage. This contributes to the authentic character of the whole.
Quantity: 9 tiles
Origin: Netherlands
Period: predominantly 19th century, some possibly older
Material: earthenware / tin-glazed earthenware
Decoration: hand-painted blue-and-white
The photos are an integral part of the description and give a good impression of the different subjects and the condition of the tiles.
An interesting composite lot for collectors of antique Dutch tiles and Delft blue, but also suitable for decorative use.
