Early 20th century Italian railway magneto telephone switchboard in wood, brass, bakelite and iron, from Piemonte (Ceva–Ormea line) with 21 internal stations, in good used condition with age marks, weighing 11 kg and measuring 32 x 38 x 15 cm.
Description from the seller
Industrial railway equipment from the early 1900s, originating in Italy, from the province of Cuneo, from the famous Ceva-Ormea railway line in the Tanaro Valley. By analyzing the logistical details legible on the labels ("Bagnasco", "Trappa", "M 13-14", "KM 25-34" Ormea etc.), there is full confirmation of the attribution of this splendid switch: it is essentially a railway telephone exchange with a magnet, originally in service along the historical Ceva-Ormea railway, located in the Upper Tanaro Valley in the province of Cuneo. The labels clearly refer to the stations and interlocking blocks of the railway line: Bagnasco: Official station of the Ceva-Ormea route. Trappa: Another historic stop and hamlet of the municipality of Garessio, located on the same line. KM 25-34 / M 13-14: Kilometric indications and the interlocking blocks or intermediate interlockings of the railway. The switchboards of this type (also known as switch tables for exclusive station service) were used by the stationmaster or the block operator to coordinate train traffic, handle faults, or quickly communicate with the signal maintainers along the tracks. Two of the 24 switchboards can be extracted and have been photographed; one on the upper left is blocked, all the others, when the two knob handles in Bakelite are turned, rotate through the complex internal mechanism back to their original starting position. Three are missing, and when opened you can glimpse that inside each station or kilometer there is its own complex internal mechanism; in total there are 21. The structure is very sound and shows no major aesthetic flaws, only those expected from age and use as well as the material. It will be carefully packed and shipped via tracked mail. I do not ship outside the EU. Observe the photos as they are part of the description."
