Description from the seller
Philips "Black Tulip" High-Fidelity System (1979) | Complete 4-Module Rack: AH370 DC, AH270, AH170 + Rare AH070 Central Unit | Original Collector’s Condition
ATTENTION COLLECTORS AND AUDIOPHILES: A UNIQUE AND UNREPEATABLE OPPORTUNITY.
We’re putting up for auction a piece of absolute continent-wide hi-fi history: the legendary Philips "Black Tulip" Complete Rack from the late seventies (1979-1980). Not a bunch of scattered components gathered over time, but a coordinated single-brand system from its origin, owned by a single owner, carefully preserved and complete with its iconic 19-inch professional rack fins.
1. Philips 160 Switch Unit (Power Distributor)
Main function: Control unit for centralized management and power-on of the various components of the system.
Features: Main switch on the front and service outlets on the rear panel for tidy cabling and to power the entire system safely.
Philips 170 AM-FM Stereo PLL Tuner (Tuner)
Frequency bands: FM (87.5 - 108 MHz) and medium wave MW (531 - 1602 kHz). Tuning technology: Phase-locked loop (PLL) for maximum frequency stability.
Indicators: Backlit analog scale and signal strength indicator
Philips 370 DC Power Amplifier (Final Power Amplifier)
Output power: 60 W RMS per channel into 8 Ohms (some measurements indicate up to 100W musical/peak).
Frequency response: Extremely wide, from 5 Hz to 200,000 Hz (DC configuration for faithful bass reproduction).
Total Harmonic Distortion (THD): Less than 0.01%. Signal-to-noise ratio: > 95 dB.
Front interface: Dual backlit analog VU meters to monitor left/right channel power, selector for two speaker pairs (Speakers A / B) and headphone output.
Philips 270 Stereo Pre Amplifier (Preamplifier)
Frequency response: 15 Hz - 25,000 Hz. THD: < 0.1%.
Available inputs: Phono MM (cartridge), Tuner, Tape 1 (Rec/Play), Tape 2 (Rec/Play).
Outputs: Dual line outputs (Pre-Amp Out) for connection to traditional power amps or Philips active speakers of the MFB (Motional Feedback) series.
Audio controls: Volume, Balance, Bass and Treble. Anti–hum/filter (High Filter), rumble filter (Low Filter/Rumble) and Loudness function. Stereo/Mono selector and Audio Mute (-20dB
The matte black brushed aluminum front panel and the warm backlighting of the analog VU meters create a magnetic stage presence, capable of dominating any modern or vintage listening room.
COMPOSITION OF THE RACK (4 COORDINATED MODULES):
Philips 22AH370 – DC Power Amplifier: The system’s muscle. A pure direct-coupled power amp, famed for its spectacular amber needle VU meters and a warm, dynamic, incredibly detailed sound.
Philips 22AH270 – Stereo Pre Amplifier: The brain. A superb audiophile preamplifier with an exceptional Phono stage for your turntable.
Philips 22AH170 – AM/FM Stereo Tuner: The voice. Analog radio tuner with old-time reception precision and signal stability.
Philips 22AH070 – Power Switch Unit (THE PIECE AT 90!): The original Black Tulip series power control unit. A component of absolute rarity on the used market, essential to power the entire system with a single dramatic centralized click.
Aesthetic condition: The unit presents as shown in the photos, retaining all the charisma and minimalist charm of the original design.
Technical note: Because this is a vintage high-end Hi‑Fi component that has been idle for some time, the system IS SOLD FOR REVISION.
A small maintenance intervention, internal cleaning, or recapping by a specialized technician will allow this audio giant to roar again, guaranteeing the extraordinary performance for which it was designed.
Don’t miss the opportunity to bring home an authentic "Black Tulip". A safe investment, a showpiece piece, and a listening experience today simply impossible to replicate.
