British folding five-tier mahogany cake stand, dating to circa 1920–1930, made in England, in good condition with small signs of aging, dimensions H 90 cm x W 46 cm x D 26 cm.
Description from the seller
British Folding Five-Tier Mahogany Cake Stand, circa 1920
A distinctive British folding cake stand with five circular display platforms arranged around a tall central frame. The stepped composition, dark mahogany-toned finish and shaped upper handle give the piece a strong architectural presence, while the folding construction makes it suitable for both practical use and decorative display.
Made in England. The construction details, including the pivoting shelf system, metal corner brackets, slotted screws and simple mechanical joints, are characteristic of British domestic furniture from the early 20th century.
Designed as a folding cake or afternoon-tea stand, a type associated with British domestic entertaining during the Edwardian and interwar period. The five independently positioned circular tiers also make it suitable today as a plant stand, display stand or decorative shelving piece.
The wooden structure retains an attractive warm patina with age-consistent surface marks and gentle variations to the finish. The articulated frame and shelves remain functional, allowing the stand to open for display and fold into a notably slim profile for storage. It will be shipped exactly as shown in the photographs, so please examine all images carefully.
Dimensions:
Height: 90 cm
Width when opened: 46 cm
