Two gelatin silver prints by Nicola de Bartolo, Trani, titled Due ritratti di gentiluomini della città di Trani, in Puglia, dating from 1900, mounted on stiff cardboard and measuring 27.5 × 33 cm, in good condition and stamped by the author, depicting gentlemen in two scenes: one on a beach with dark suits and hats and a boy in sailor clothing, the other gathered around a table with mandolins and guitars.
Description from the seller
Two prints - mounted on stiff cardboard - created by Prof. Nicola de Bartolo di Trani, depicting gentlemen.
In the first photograph the group is portrayed on the beach, perhaps in the area from the Monastery of Santa Maria di Colonna to Baia di Colonna. Or near the Scoglio di Frisio. The group is depicted wearing dark jacket suits, hats (including straw hats and borsalino) and neatly trimmed mustaches. On the left a young man is dressed in sailor attire and on the right another is riding a bicycle.
In the second print the men are gathered around a laid table and some hold musical instruments in their hands, such as mandolins and a guitar. On the back of this second print there is a list of signatures presumably of the people portrayed. Both prints are stamped by the author.
It has not been possible to trace any information about the author or the subjects.
The prints may have been produced using techniques other than gelatin silver, given the depths of the blacks and their splendid state of preservation.
