It is in the wake of President Pompidou's official trip that Bruno Barbey discovers a China in full transformation, yet still under the influence of the Cultural Revolution.
At that time, the majority of the population wore the Mao suit and the walls were covered with colorful slogans. A few years later, the photographer returns and already sees the effects of Deng Xiaoping's invitation to the Chinese people: 'Enrich Yourself.' Nanjing, Suzhou, Macau, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai… Bruno Barbey has returned to China many times and, on each visit, with images to back it up, observed the deep mutations transforming the country.
