Corona 4 – Portable typewriter with case
Description
Antique Corona portable typewriter, manufactured by Corona Typewriter Company, Inc., Groton, New York, U.S.A., dating from the estimated period 1920-1930.
A very beautiful example equipped with a French AZERTY keyboard, with its inscriptions and controls in French. The machine has a glossy black finish with the large gold CORONA marking on the front, as well as the manufacturer’s inscriptions still visible.
Operation
The machine has been tested and is functional.
It types correctly on paper and the keyboard is in very good working order. The overall mechanism also works: the carriage moves, the platen feeds and holds the sheet correctly, and the various levers and mechanical controls tested function.
A photograph of the typing test on paper is included to show its real operation.
Both spools are present with their black and red two-tone ribbon. The internal mechanism, the arms carrying the characters, and the various mechanical parts are also clearly visible in detail in the photographs.
Case and accessories
The machine is accompanied by its old Corona case, bearing the “Corona Typewriter Co.” marking on its clasp.
The case opens and closes properly. Its design allows the two parts to separate when opening/manipulating.
It also retains several old accessories intended for cleaning and maintenance of the machine, notably various small brushes. These accessories have their own specific storage locations inside the case lid, as visible in the photographs.
Condition
The machine is in very good overall condition for its age. The keyboard, the inscriptions, the gold Corona marking, and the various mechanical elements are well preserved.
The case shows signs of age and use, normal for an ensemble from this era.
The machine has not been restored or enhanced for the photographs. The photos show its actual current condition and are an integral part of the description.
