Description

The slingshots or stone-throwers, also called POTOMO WAKA, as the BAULÉ designate them, are carved and used by several ethnic groups: BAULE, SENUFO, LOBI, BOBO, DOGON, etc.

These objects express a wide variety of sculptural or ornamental motifs: simple or double-faced human faces, animal representations, masks, simple characters or characters carved in combination with animals or with masks, etc.

They are always decorated according to the iconographic traditions of the people who made them, with the style that is characteristic of them and without forgetting their exclusive function as stone projectors.

The aesthetics of this ethnographic object denote a high artistic level.
