Description from the seller
Elegant square porcelain plate with openwork, from the Herendi Porcelánmanufaktúra Zrt., shape no. 7374, made and decorated by hand in Hungary in the second half of the 20th century, circa 1948-1989. This piece elegantly illustrates one of Herend’s most characteristic technical specialties: openwork porcelain, a demanding process that gives the creations a remarkable visual lightness.
The plate features a square shape with slightly rounded corners, completely surrounded by a spectacular openwork network composed of interlaced fine porcelain slats arranged in regular arcs. The whole is framed by an outer twisted border, also made of porcelain. The central panel, slightly raised, is adorned with a polychrome floral bouquet dominated by various shades of pink, with stylized flowers, leaves and buds. A pink plant frieze underscores its perimeter, punctuated by small gilded floral motifs on all four sides. Fine gold lines complete the ornamentation. The reverse bears the blue Herend mark, the inscription “HANDPAINTED,” the shape number 7374, and the handwritten inscription “AP.”
The plate is in perfect condition. The porcelain remains snow-white and the entire openwork network is intact, with no loss or deformation. The painted decoration shows excellent freshness and the gilded highlights are very well preserved. No chips, cracks, or restorations are visible.
Founded in 1826 in Herend, the Hungarian manufactury has earned an international reputation for the quality of its porcelain and the virtuosity of its artisans. The openwork process is carried out on the porcelain while it is still in a “ leather-hard ” state, using a sharp tool to carefully cut out the openings before drying and firing. Shape 7374 thus fully embodies this tradition of openwork pieces, where the technical mastery of the execution itself becomes a major decorative element. Today the manufacturer officially bears the name “Herendi Porcelánmanufaktúra Zrt.”
Dimensions:
- Height: 3 centimeters,
- Width: 19 centimeters,
- Weight: 400 grams.
The plate will be carefully packaged and shipped promptly in secure packaging. In-store pickup and combined delivery are available. The photos are part of the description.
