Icon - Nicholas the Wonderworker - Wood

Orthodox icon depicting Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, shown frontally as a bishop and holding the open Gospel, with a blessing gesture. The saint is surrounded by a richly ornamented halo and decorative architectural elements, with smaller sacred figures appearing in the upper corners.

The icon is painted on a wooden panel, with a warm golden-brown palette and a red outer border. The reverse consists of a substantial wooden panel with visible age-related wear and traces of use.

The surface shows extensive signs of age, including craquelure, abrasions, losses and areas of wear to the painted and gilded surface. The corners and edges also show wear consistent with age and use.
