Decorative miniature folio from an Indian Quran dated 1548/9, titled Quran - India, written in Arabic with original language marked, one page measuring 9.5 by 6.5 cm in good condition.

A decorative miniature folio from an Indian Quran dated 1548/9, consisting of the opening verses of Surat al-Insan (chapter 76 - "Humans"), v.1-8 beginning with the Basmalah and continuing through the passage on man's creation. It is written in nashki and contains 2 lines of fluid scripture in black ink all embedded within gold cloud. Simple gold 'aya' in burnished god and red mark the individual verses. An elaborate illuminated decorative marginal Juz accompanies the text, and marks the beginning of the new 'ruku' (section).
Verses 1 to 8 of Chapter 76 describe the creation and testing of humanity, the reality of moral choice, and the righteous character of those who act with sincere charity and devotion to God.
