Description from the seller

Rare complete set of 4 Swatch “Swiss Art Swatch”, a special numbered edition produced in 1991 to celebrate the 700th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation (1291–1991).

An intriguing meeting of Swiss contemporary art, graphic design, and Swatch history, consisting of four models created by artists representative of the different linguistic regions of Switzerland.

The lot includes all four watches from the series:

* Niklaus Troxler – “Fläck” – Ref. GZ117 – Ed. 0472/5555
* Silvie & Chérif Defraoui – “Test” – Ref. GZ118 – Ed. 0470/5555
* Felice Varini – “360° Rosso su Blackout” – Ref. GZ119 – 3650/5555
* Not Vital – “Wheel Animal” – Ref. GZ120 – Ed. 4394/5555

All four are Swiss Made, with quartz movement, and belong to the special Numbered Edition of 1991.

Particularly interesting is the presence of the original Swiss Art Swatch certificate, dedicated to the four artists and their respective models, complete with signatures, in addition to the original transparent cases “Swiss Art Swatch.”

The series was conceived as a true wrist-art project: each artist freely interpreted the theme of space and time through a completely different language.

- Fläck, by Niklaus Troxler, uses the graphic motif of cow blotches, transforming it into an abstract black-and-white composition.

- Test, by Silvie & Chérif Defraoui, offers a strongly painterly composition in shades of blue and azure.

- 360° Rosso su Blackout, by Felice Varini, is perhaps the most immediately recognizable in the series: a red line traverses the strap and the black dial, creating a rigorous geometric composition.

- Wheel Animal, by Not Vital, interprets time as a kind of sundial, through a simple circular pattern on the dial. The watch is also present in the Centre Pompidou collections.

A set particularly interesting not only for the Swatch collector but also for those who collect Swiss design, contemporary art, and iconic 1990s objects.

Condition

The four watches are overall very well preserved considering their approximately 35 years of age. Cases, dials, and straps present a very good overall appearance; please carefully review the numerous high-resolution photographs, which are an integral part of the description.

The original cases may show normal and minor traces due to time and storage.

The watches are sold without batteries.
