Object description
Extremely rare and magnificent antique snuff box (Tabatière) (Italy, late 18th century). The object is made of solid silver and throughout adorned with a fine, warm shimmering original gold plating (Vermeil). A true vitrine piece, which by its radiant presence and historical appeal immediately catches the eye.
The top of the hinged lid captivates with an elaborate, highly precise chasing: The centerpiece is an oval inlaid Cartouche with finest wickerwork guilloché, surrounded by gracefully worked Classical Rococo scrolls, foliate motifs and a surrounding meander border. The side walls are also adorned with detailed geometric friezes.
On the inner rim of the canning wall are three exceptionally well-preserved historical stamps (Poinçons de Charge / Décharge), evidencing the origin and the fineness of French Old Silver smithing of the Ancien Régime.
An extremely finely crafted collector’s piece of museum quality, which after more than 220 years is in fantastic preservation. The hinge lid closes precisely and flush – an absolute highlight for any upscale antique collection.
