Exceptional copy unusually signed on the title page by Gianni Berengo Gardin (1930 - 2025), unobtainable on the internet as a signed copy, rarissime and highly sought after in unsigned copies. 108 pages and about 100 full-page black-and-white photographs, softcover illustrated. In excellent condition.

The Italian newspaper Il Mondo was an Italian weekly of political, economic and cultural information with a centrist liberal tendency, published initially from 1949 to 1966. From 1951 this newspaper published a photograph on the front page and many photographers were invited to have their photographs published. Gianni Berengo Gardin, who contributed to the journal from 1954, is one of those who contributed the most. In 1954 Gianni Berengo Gardin practiced photography as an amateur, and these contributions mark, in a way, his entry into professional work. Gianni Berengo Gardin, whose very wealthy family had been completely ruined by the Second World War, recounts that to get from Venice to Rome to meet the director of the newspaper he traveled by train in third class and slept in the station waiting room because he could not afford a hotel.

One often detects in Gianni Brengo Gardin a small note of irony. Thus this photograph taken in the center of Milan, where one can see this fascist slogan written in large letters on a wall: "Noi siamo contro la vita comoda" — "We are against the easy life" — and a luxury car passes by...
