Antique Javanese Keris Lurus from Solo / Surakarta - Pamor Koso / Wos Wutah - Timaha Wood - 19th/20th Century.
The sheath is not original.
DESCRIPTION:
For auction: a characterful and authentic Javanese Keris Lurus from the princely city of Solo (Surakarta), Central Java. A pusaka piece with a very pronounced pamor.
The Keris is recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage and is much more than a weapon - it is a spiritual and cultural object.
Specifications according to tradition:
• Dapur: Lurus, Tilam Upih - a timeless, straight form that stands for simplicity, purity and focus. One of the most worn dapur forms in Java.
• Pamor: Koso / Wos Wutah variant. Very clear and high-contrast present across the entire blade, as clearly seen in the photos. The vivid, cloud-like pattern arises from the centuries-old folding work of iron and nickel-containing pamor iron (pamor luwu). In photos 3 and 4 the pattern is beautifully deeply visible.
• Tangguh / Age: Late 19th century, Surakarta. The blade shows a beautiful deep warangan etching and age patina.
• Warangka (scabbard): Ladrang Solo model in Timoho / Trembalo wood with a warm, well-worn patina and natural grain pattern. The warangka has a characterful old crack, fitting the age - see photo 1.
• Hulu (handle): Classic Solo grip in hardwood, Yudha Winangka model, with light carving details and beautiful patina of use.
• Mendak / Selut: Old mendak with granulation decoration.
Condition: Good, authentic antique condition. The blade is sturdy and complete with a deep pamor pattern. Light signs of aging on the wood and metal. See photos for an exact condition assessment. This is not a new made-in repro.
The hull shows traces of old repairs.
Origin: Private collection Netherlands, from an old family possession.
