Description from the seller
Beautiful antique mantel clock, typical of the late 19th century Napoléon III era in France.
The clock case is made up of green onyx inlays, recognizable by its jade-green hues, natural translucent veining, and touches of amber or reddish tones. The ornaments and fittings are in gilded régule. Rocaille-style volutes on the sides, richly worked feet, and a top adorned with a floral rosette.
The dial is white enameled porcelain, with stylized Arabic numerals for the hours. It has two winding holes characteristic of mechanical movements of the period (8-day movement with striking on the hours and quarters).
The back mechanism seems sound, and when the hands are turned by hand the clock chimes. Nevertheless the clock is sold as needing servicing since I cannot get it to run. I am not an expert in clockmaking and prefer to leave it to an expert given the quality of the piece.
The clock is in very good aesthetic condition and has no major visual damage. The balance wheel is not present. The winding key is supplied with the clock.
Superb rare collectible piece.
