Antique curved display cabinet from the early 19th century in black and brown wood, with a two-part construction, glass doors and locks, measuring 234 cm high by 75 cm deep and 75 cm wide, attributed to German origins (Beieren possibly) and in a reasonable used condition.
Description from the seller
Antique curved display cabinet – early 19th century, possibly Empire / early Biedermeier
Special antique, curved display cabinet with a characteristic semi-circular shape, originating from a family heirloom. The family history of the cabinet traces back to Germany, with connections to Berlin and Bavaria. The original origin and maker are not known with certainty.
Based on design, construction and detailing, the cabinet appears to date from the early 19th century. The style shows clear classical features and possibly influences from the Empire period, perhaps around the transition to early Biedermeier.
The cabinet has a striking curved front with glazed doors, richly detailed black columns and profiles, and a distinctive crown molding. The warm wood grain of the veneered front contrasts beautifully with the black architectural elements.
Also notable are the authentic old locks, key plates and the original fittings. The construction and the back clearly show that this is an old, handcrafted piece of furniture.
The cabinet consists of two demountable parts and can therefore be split for transport.
Dimensions:
* Total height: approx. 234 cm
* Depth: approx. 75 cm
* Height of lower unit: approx. 87 cm
* Height of upper section: approx. 147 cm
The cabinet is in an unrestored, lived-in condition. There are signs of aging, crack lines, damages and traces of use and previous repairs. These traces are intentionally part of the character of the furniture. There has been no attempt to conceal them or to restore the piece fully.
A distinctive and decorative piece for collectors and enthusiasts of early-19th-century European furniture.
Dating, maker and original provenance cannot be determined with certainty. The stated style period is an expert estimate based on design, construction and detailing.
