Antique manually powered lathe for watchmakers - Finishing/Finishing Tool
An heirloom from an uncle who was a jeweler in Copenhagen, Denmark.
A notable old precision lathe. Heavily built in brass and steel on a solid wooden base, with a large flywheel, belt drive, and various fine-mechanical settings.
The piece comes from Danish family ownership. I have not been able to find a manufacturer or maker's mark, despite careful searching of the visible parts and the underside. It is possible that a brand is hidden or very small, but I cannot confirm.
I myself have no technical knowledge of this type of equipment and therefore cannot assess whether all original parts are present or whether it is fully functional. For that reason, many detailed photos have been deliberately added. As far as is visible, nothing appears to be broken.
The upper metal section can tilt/move relative to the wooden base. I don’t know whether this is part of the original construction or if it would normally be fixed, and I therefore state this explicitly.
Nice original patina and signs of use matching its age. Probably dating from around 1900.
