Description from the seller
NIKON F2 Photomic S, tested and working.
Hello from Japan!
We provide high-quality cameras and lenses to the world.
The Nikon F2, produced from 1971 to 1980, is widely considered the finest fully mechanical professional SLR ever built, refining the legendary F with a faster 1/2000 shutter, a swing-open back and a vast system of finders and motor drives. This example wears the DP-2 finder, making it an F2 Photomic S — the 1973 upgrade whose meter replaced the swinging needle with LED indicators, bright enough to read in the dark and driven by improved circuitry. F2 bodies earned a near-mythical reputation for reliability among press photographers, and the Photomic S variant is one of the less common finder combinations, adding collector interest to an already iconic camera.
Condition: Used — Excellent
Pre-owned, heavy signs of use
Serial Number
Please check the photo.
Appearance
Nearly free of marks — an unusually clean example. Please check the photos.
Optical Condition
Functional
The camera operates properly — see the measured shutter figures above (1/1.3 at 1s, 1/69 at 1/60, 1/1250 at 1/1000 — all close to spec).
The DP-2 LED meter responds and reads close to accurate: about -0.4 EV at EV12 and +0.9 EV at EV15.
Shutter-chamber light seals have been replaced.
Measured Performance
We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured:
- 1 s — measured 1/1.3 s (approx. 0.4 stop fast)
- 1/60 — measured 1/69 s (approx. 0.2 stop fast)
- 1/1000 — measured 1/1250 s (approx. 0.3 stop fast)
- Light meter accuracy — EV12: 0.4 UNDER / EV15: 0.9 OVER
Negative film has enough latitude to absorb deviations of this size, but the figures are here so you can judge for yourself.
Servicing
This camera was serviced by us before listing:
- Light seals (foam) replaced
