Gulden 1713 – Utrecht

Rare gulden, minted in Utrecht in 1713.
A somewhat uncommon issue within the Utrecht provincial coinage. The 1713 gulden is found only in limited numbers, making this issue distinctive within the series.
Struck under the mint mastership of Siberius van Romondt, with the city shield of Utrecht as mint mark.
This specimen possesses a particularly attractive appearance. For a hammered coin of this type, the depictions are strikingly crisp, with clear details and a convincing presentation.

The Dutch Maiden, frontal, holding in her right hand a spear crowned with the cap of liberty.
With her left elbow she leans on the Bible, placed on an elaborately adorned altar. Below the depiction the year:

Around the Latin inscription:
HAC NITIMVR · HANC TVEMVR
followed by the city shield of Utrecht.
Translation:
We support this – we defend this.
The motto refers to the Bible and liberty: two fundamental symbols within the imagery of the Republic.
