Tray - Chinoiserie - Tin

A highly decorative Regency-period Chinoiserie tray, crafted in toleware (painted tin) and finished in black with elaborate gilt decoration.

The front is richly decorated with an imaginary Chinese landscape featuring pagodas, a bridge, palm trees, flowering vegetation and numerous figures, all finely rendered in gold against the deep black ground.

The composition is particularly detailed and atmospheric, reflecting the European fascination with Chinoiserie decoration during the Regency period.

Condition

Overall in very good antique condition, with minor signs of age and use. Some scratches, small areas of wear and losses to the painted surface are present, particularly on the reverse and around the edges, consistent with an object of this age.
