Royal hand-carved oak cabinet – floral medallions & caryatids – Netherlands/Belgium – ca. 1910–1930
The cabinet immediately catches the eye with its extensive and beautifully executed woodcarving. The doors feature six large circular medallions, each deeply carved with stylized flowers, fruits, leaves and graceful tendrils. The varied motifs and the clear sense of depth give the piece a particularly decorative character.
On both sides lie richly carved ornaments and figurative elements. Especially beautiful are the carved male and female figures/caryatids, executed in solid wood. The crown molding is finished with profiled moldings and a continuous carved ornamental band.
The interior is also carefully finished. Behind the upper doors there is a spacious storage area with a shelf. The lower section also offers ample storage space and contains four separate interior drawers with their own lock hardware and adjustable shelves.
The cabinet is in good used condition for its age, with normal signs of aging and use that suit the character of the furniture.
