Description from the seller
Émaux de Longwy – A beautiful set of decorative pieces featuring birds and flowers.
Very fine antique enamalled earthenware set from the Émaux de Longwy manufacture, comprising a cup and two circular accompanying pieces.
The pieces feature a remarkable hand-painted polychrome decoration, with birds among flowering branches, flowers and foliage, on an elegant ivory crackle background.
The borders are especially decorative with a repeating frieze of pink flowers and green foliage on a turquoise ground, outlined in dark blue.
The set presents a very attractive decorative effect, typical of Longwy production in the first half of the 20th century.
The cup has a handle and a cobalt blue rim. The reverse sides show turquoise glaze as well as the Émaux de Longwy – France marks.
The glaze crazing is characteristic of the manufacture and fully contributes to the antique and decorative appearance of the pieces.
