Born in Paris in 1972, Guillaume Lemarquier, aka Mist, is an artist from the street art scene, more precisely from graffiti.

Mist began practicing graffiti in Paris in 1988, then around the world, from which he draws his graphic codes. He quickly became one of the best tracers of graffiti lettering in the “wild style” in Europe – often accompanied by the characters of his contemporary ally Steph Cop – he marked an entire generation from which what would become street art culture emerged.

His style and his collaboration with artists Tilt, Steph Cop, T.Kid, Bando… on numerous works then made him an internationally recognized artist on the graffiti scene.

Subsequently, in 1991, during the Graffiti Art exhibition at the Musée national des Monuments français he exhibited wood-panel paintings alongside internationally renowned American artists such as Futura, Rammellzee, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Always more avant-garde, Mist was then one of the few artists from this movement to work in volume. He is one of the pioneers of the designer toy phenomenon, those small vinyl sculptures produced in editions from 100 to 1000 pieces and sold in collectible toy stores. From then on Mist devoted himself fully to his creation in his Montpellier studio, where he lives today.

At a time when the word street art no longer makes much sense – you become a “street artist” by leaving the beaux-arts or simply by using an aerosol can or techniques such as stenciling – at a moment when only the result matters – we forget the journey, the action, or the legitimacy – Mist’s current painting is, for those who know his history, coherent and true to his career.

He works on calligraphy, on the gestural energy of graffiti, but also on the intensity of colors with the sole aim of burning viewers’ retinas.

His life experiences seep into his painting. It is but the obvious evolution of his first graffiti along railway lines in 1988 when he was a graphic design student. If the evolution was slow, it is now undeniable, inescapable.

The construction lines of the letters and the contours have evaporated – more than 10 years of studio work were needed – giving way to an abstraction whose dynamism and spontaneity remain intact. His patinated backgrounds still reveal the scars of the walls of the wasteland lots he practiced so much. Contemplating a Mist canvas is to lose oneself in an abstract composition of hypnotic power, fusing urban art with contemporary.

Experts now place him in the world’s top five alongside artists like Kaws and Futura.

The package will be well packed, sent with tracking, and signed for on delivery.
