Description
Orthodox icon depicting the Resurrection of Christ and the Twelve Great Feasts (Prazdnik), arranged around the central and dominant scene of the Resurrection and Descent into Hades.

The central composition shows Christ in the Resurrection, surrounded by angels, prophets and other figures, with the Descent into Hades represented below. The surrounding panels depict the major feasts of the Orthodox liturgical year, including the Nativity of the Mother of God, Presentation of the Mother of God into the Temple, Annunciation, Nativity of Christ, Baptism of Christ, Presentation of Christ in the Temple, Transfiguration, Entry into Jerusalem, Ascension, Pentecost, Exaltation of the Cross and Dormition of the Mother of God.

The scenes are separated by painted borders and accompanied by Cyrillic inscriptions identifying the individual feasts. The icon has a warm golden-brown ground and a strongly linear, expressive pictorial style.

Painted in tempera on a wooden panel, with a gilded or gilt-coloured background. The reverse shows the wooden construction with two transverse wooden splints.

The icon presents signs of age and use and significant wear or old surface marks and general deterioration consistent with age. The reverse also shows significant wear and old surface marks.
