Collection of 4 antique prestige/status weapons, D.R. Congo, probably 19th century.

Collection of four old African prestige- or status-weapons from the D.R. Congo / Central Africa, likely the 19th century or before 1900.

The collection includes:

- two particularly decorative axes with copper- or copper-alloy blades
- a hand-forged iron axe with wooden shaft
- a hand-forged spear with iron blade and wooden shaft

The two copper axes are particularly finely worked. The blades display carved or engraved geometric patterns, partly with a beautiful greenish patina of oxidation. The wooden handles are carved at the ends and show geometric decoration.

The iron weapons show hand-forged blades or axe heads. The shafts are wrapped with animal hide/leather cuffs and additionally set in with metal bands or metal rings. This combination of wood, iron, leather/animal hide and metal bands suggests careful traditional craftsmanship and a decorative status character.

Exact ethnic attribution is not secured. Origin stated as: D.R. Congo / Central Africa. An old label with a wider dating “14th–19th c.” was present; cautiously this is given here as “likely the 19th century / before 1900.”

Condition: Age-appropriate condition with patina, oxidation, rust traces, signs of use, dry leather/animal hide parts, minor losses and age-related traces on the wood. Unrestored. Overall decorative, authentically convincing and collectible as preserved.
