Column - 1850-1900

Painted decorative column, Italy, late 19th – early 20th century. This elegant display column, probably of Italian manufacture, belongs to the late nineteenth-century decorative tradition and the early twentieth century, with clear allusions to the revival taste and to the cabinetmaking productions intended for bourgeois drawing rooms and representative environments. The structure features a tapered shaft in black-lacquered wood, enriched by a rich painted decoration in polychrome floral motifs, executed with fine brushwork and made luminous by touches of gold. The square capital is adorned with a carved frame with volutes and moldings, while the base, also square, rests on a circular foot with concentric gold bands that enhance its stage presence. General good condition with signs and time-stains; the photos are part of the description.
