DESCRIPTION
Interesting family nucleus composed of four Italian decorations belonging to the Viscardi family and kept together in an old medal display case.
The lot includes:
1. Commemorative Medal of the Fiume Expedition – September 12, 1919
Bronze medal with ribbon in the colors of Fiume.
Obverse: spread-wing eagle, figures of legionaries and the motto “HIC MANEBIMUS OPTIME”.
Reverse: “AI LIBERATORI – XII SETTEMBRE MCMXIX – FIUME D’ITALIA”.
Total weight with ribbon: about 31 grams, measured with a household scale. The weight is compatible with one of the later issues, without the possibility of determining the specific issue with certainty.
According to documented family provenance, the decoration belonged to Ercole Viscardi, born in 1902, Bersagliere and participant in the Fiume expedition. His name appears in the lists of the Fiuman legionaries.
2. Commemorative Medal for the wartime period 1940–1943
Bronze medal with the original green and red ribbon and two campaign bands bearing the years “1940” and “1941”.
The decoration is traditionally attributed to Ercole Viscardi.
On the back of the ribbon are the old metal devices used to attach it to the medal display.
3. Commemorative Medal of Italian Unity 1848–1918
Bronze medal with portrait of Vittorio Emanuele III and inscription “VITTORIO EMANUELE III RE D’ITALIA”.
On the reverse: laurel crown and inscription “UNITÀ D’ITALIA 1848–1918”.
Complete with the corresponding tricolor ribbon. According to family tradition it belonged to Alberto Viscardi, Ercole’s father.
4. Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic – old model
Enamelled cross of the model used before the 2001 reform, with central star, four eagles and a crenellated crown, complete with the green ribbon edged in red.
The crenellated crown and the ribbon recently separated from the body of the cross at the suspension point. Both parts are present and are sold in the illustrated condition. The enamels are substantially intact.
CONDITIONS
The decorations are sold exactly as photographed. They show normal signs of age, wear and ribbon fraying, oxidations, old attachment systems, and residues of the adhesive used in the family medal display.
The OMRI Cross is separated from the crown at the suspension point. It has not been glued or restored.
The items have not been cleaned or polished, in order to preserve their patina and original conditions.
Direct provenance from the Viscardi family. No diplomas or grant certificates are present.
Careful and traceable shipping.
